Turning Sustainability Data into Meaningful Action with IBM Envizi

Sustainability has moved from a corporate ambition to a strategic necessity. But unlocking real impact depends on how effectively organisations can harness their ESG data to drive decisions, meet compliance obligations, and future-proof operations.

In the on-demand webinar, “Steering the Carbon Conversation – Turning Sustainability Data into Action with IBM Envizi,” moderated by Georgina Macrae, Advisory Sustainability SME - EMEA from IBM, experts from Logicalis and IBM explored how a data-driven approach is helping organisations simplify ESG reporting, manage risk, and create measurable value.

Speakers

  • Nick Zinzan, Head of Responsible Business, Logicalis & Datatec
  • Ross Kirkpatrick, Advisory Delivery Consultant - Envizi Lead, IBM
  • Tim Wadey, Head of Advisory, Logicalis UK&I

Turning ESG Intent into Action

For Logicalis, the journey with IBM Envizi began with a simple goal: to improve the speed, accuracy and accessibility of sustainability data across global operations. Six months later, that decision has reshaped how the business approaches carbon reporting, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

We now have a real-time, consolidated view of emissions across all territories. It’s transformed our ability to set meaningful targets and act on them.

Envizi’s automated data model replaced time-consuming spreadsheet processes, accelerating year-end reporting, reducing manual error, and supporting streamlined assurance and audit readiness, particularly for frameworks like CSRD, CDP and SBTi.

Going Beyond Compliance

While regulatory alignment is critical, Logicalis and IBM made clear that the real value of ESG data lies in strategic enablement. Logicalis is now leveraging Envizi to:

  • Track and manage Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
  • Conduct scenario analysis for physical and transition climate risks
  • Develop science-based, region-specific decarbonisation plans
  • Prepare for upcoming standards including ISSB and TNFD
  • Engage a broader network of business units and suppliers in ESG delivery

Envizi’s structured approach supports modular growth, giving teams the flexibility to build on a strong foundation over time. Upcoming enhancements such as the Supply Chain Intelligence module and Planning Analytics are designed to support deeper supplier insights and forward-looking modelling.

Making ESG Everyone’s Business

Ross Kirkpatrick of IBM Envizi underscored an important cultural point: most end users of ESG software don’t have “sustainability” in their job title. Instead, real impact comes from cross-functional collaboration, where finance teams, procurement, HR, and site managers all contribute to data capture, reporting and strategic planning.

The most successful implementations are those where ESG becomes embedded in the day-to-day of the business—not just owned by one team.

Regulation as a Catalyst

Tim Wadey of Logicalis UK&I highlighted how regulation continues to be a key driver of ESG adoption. In the UK, policies such as SECR and SDR, alongside new public procurement requirements, are prompting businesses to measure, report, and reduce carbon as a matter of compliance. In Ireland, CSRD directly applies to over 1,000 companies.

The frameworks may differ, but the message is the same: if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it and you certainly can’t report it credibly.

This regulatory momentum is also influencing investor behaviour, with platforms like Envizi increasingly used to provide direct access to real-time ESG metrics for fund managers and auditors.

What’s Next?

In 2025, Logicalis will shift from group-level objectives to more granular country-level carbon reduction plans. Supported by Envizi’s data insights, the company is now identifying high-impact areas for emissions reduction at the local level—across offices, data centres and supply chains.

From a product perspective, IBM is expanding functionality to support double materiality assessments, climate risk modelling and structured alignment with the CSRD and ISSB frameworks. These tools will help businesses not only track performance but also clearly communicate their ESG value to all stakeholders.

Final Thought

The question posed at the end of the session was simple, but powerful:

How can your ESG data inspire someone else in your business to act?

Platforms like IBM Envizi are designed to make that possible by making sustainability data accurate, accessible and actionable.

If you're ready to turn reporting into results, Logicalis and IBM are here to help.
